ClanDestine #1 Hits THE SPLASH PAGE

Chad Nevett and I have begun a new weekly column at Sequart.org. It's called THE SPLASH PAGE and it features fancy comic book chit chat that will make you smarter. This week, we tackle the Alan Davis-ness of ClanDestine #1. Check out our words of wisdom HERE.

Best of luck on the new column!(I've GOT to put some more pieces over at my dusty old column before they pull the damn thing...)

I never followed ClanDestine, but I've always liked Alan Davis' other works.

I wonder if ClanDestine might be considered Alan Davis's Magnum Opus? It's possible. I don't know what else would compete for that title--maybe his run writing and drawing Excalibur?

While I haven't read it, would JLA: The Nail qualify? Or would it be too short?

Although, Greg Burgas mentioned in his look at this week's books that ClanDestine may be the closest thing to a creator-owned book from Davis that we've gotten yet.

But, I think we can all agree that his run on the X-books, though, most certainly does not enter the competition. Oh, those were some bad comics.

I do love the Nail, but I would disqualify it from official Magnum Opus status (whatever that means) it on the basis that it's just a continuity twist story, and not really a stand-alone masterpiece.

I totally forgot about this, but my wife reminds me that she used to read ClanDestine too! It's probably the only non-Vertigo, non-Bone comic that she's ever read. In her words, "I remember liking that comic but then you stopped buying it because some bad writers and artists started doing it."

So, ClanDestine: wife approved!
