Hulk #10 Review

Recently reviewed by me at CBR: Hulk #10, about which I write the following sentences: "What we get here is a spiritual sequel to 'Contest of Champions,' but with more gloriously bombastic art and more potential for explosive action. 'Hulk' will never be accused -- at least not in this incarnation -- of being a thinking man's comic, but it doesn't aim to be. It aims for pure comic book energy, for the giggling madness of four-color fantasy, for the epic splendor of titans tussling. I'm starting to sound like Stan Lee myself with all this hyperbole, but that's the kind of mood this comic puts you in. It's all about the visceral thrills of seeing the Defenders vs. the Offenders, the battle we've all been waiting for."

Hulk #8 Review

Recently reviewed by me at CBR: Hulk #8 about which I write the following sentences: "This is one of the most difficult comics to rate on the five-star scale. On the one hand, the artwork by Art Adams and Frank Cho is beautiful, and Jeph Loeb gives each artist a story which perfectly suits their style. So, the look of the comic is five-star, definitely. And by the standards of the quintessential 'Hulk' comic, issue #8 ranks pretty high. It's swiftly-paced, bombastic fun, perfect for a comic about a giant monster smashing stuff. But a sophisticated look at the Hulk mythos, it is not. Nor does it seem intended to be. It's a simple romp of a Hulk tale -- two different Hulk tales, actually -- and that's all it is. It's not going to change the world, or reinvent graphic narrative, or challenge anyone's assumptions about the character or the genre. It's a lot of punching and smashing, drawn with meticulous beauty."

Hulk #5 Review

Recently reviewed by me at CBR: Hulk #5, about which I write the following sentences: "I'd just like to point out once again that in the last issue, the Red Hulk punched the Watcher in the face. Literally. That should tell you everything you need to know about this series. Some of you might be thinking, 'that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.' Others may be thinking, 'that's awesome. The smug bastard had it coming.' I'm with the latter group. I don't know what a "Hulk" comic should be, but this one is dumb and fun and I'm completely on board."
