I have always liked minis-- I run my main campaign with the World of Darkness rules even though it is fantasy, & I use miniatures in that, even though WoD is truly "theater of the mind." It helps give people something to look at in a fight, it reminds people there is terrain to take cover behind or take advantage of, that there might be fire pits or rivers or furniture to factor in. It makes it so people can keep things straight-- "wait, I thought I was right by the evil wizard?" "No, you were fighting orcs, the orcs are on the other side of the bridge" "But I was just biding my time till I attacked the wizard, can I take it back?"-- & it gives the players who are waiting for their turn something to look at. PLUS minis are cool...your labyrinth is cool!mordicaihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05713766652793265867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22842788.post-43890054045560035852012-05-29T09:43:46.351-04:002012-05-29T09:43:46.351-04:00A different group fought some orcs...inconclusivel...A different group fought some orcs...inconclusively.mordicaihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05713766652793265867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22842788.post-19473105775377268252012-05-27T10:24:01.968-04:002012-05-27T10:24:01.968-04:00Haha I made up a town & an inn for just that r...Haha I made up a town & an inn for just that reason, actually. I certainly did.

Actually, I'm listening to the whole series on audiobooks, and the guy who does the reading is fantastic. So maybe that helps.

Not having actually READ word of it, I guess there is something about Martin's prose that would probably feel tedious. Hearing it as unabridged audio, however, is fantastic.

I saw the first couple episodes of the HBO series immediately after finishing the book, and I was severely disappointed. Everything seemed so condensed, rushed, and dashed off, with no room to breathe. That's to be expected when adapting prose to live action, but this was one of the worst transfers I've seen.

Taken as a whole, the show ITSELF wasn't bad (I felt it was "okay"), but the aesthetic transfer (or whatever) between mediums left a lot to be desired.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22842788.post-40808307060053898382012-03-16T14:24:53.250-04:002012-03-16T14:24:53.250-04:00Hey just head a read of this, nice list, I was won...Hey just head a read of this, nice list, I was wondering if you have any favorites yet for this year?Jonathan O'Dwyerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18149340488853102293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22842788.post-23526176832698752352012-03-16T06:04:26.732-04:002012-03-16T06:04:26.732-04:00jesus!

I have no problem with that. I've been collecting comics for a very long time. As an older fan, though, my disposable income is slightly less than what a New Reader's might be. I might try one or two of these 52 new #1's. The New Reader will probably try more than that.

I tried Starman and Primal Force after Zero Hour. I stuck with both until they ended. One at around a year or so, the other lasted 80 consecutive issues, plus annuals.

Some of these new #1's look good. Some look just okay; some make me wonder what DC is thinking; some didn't look good the last time DC tried them.

My definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over, again and again - but expect different results. That's insanity. I think DC is trying to get different results. The only way to do that is to change what you're doing to get the different results.

But, that's just me...Cathy and Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10176787538314011376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22842788.post-84014894470917561782011-06-02T14:21:24.641-04:002011-06-02T14:21:24.641-04:00Tim - Just wanted to say how happy I am to be addi...Tim - Just wanted to say how happy I am to be adding a bookmark for your page back into my browser. I think that would definitive take him away from the Batman books, which is only troubling for me because I rather love Dick Grayson as Batman. I can't think of any reason Dick would quit being Batman and go back to being Nightwing -- it's total character regression. Let's hope your prediction about that Outsiders books holds, then, given that Batman just put Tim Drake in charge of them. Maybe he'll give up that rather silly Red Robin name and follow in Dick's footsteps.
I kind of doubt it, though.Kyle Garrethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08323029927874089911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22842788.post-47104526554941625402011-05-31T07:28:11.232-04:002011-05-31T07:28:11.232-04:00Welcome back man!
