Batman #681 Hits THE SPLASH PAGE

Sick of talking about the end of "Batman R.I.P" yet?

Chad Nevett and I discuss the issue, its implications for the future of the Bat-franchise, and/or whether or not we "get it" in the newest installment of the internet's best place for comic book dialogue: The Splash Page.

Young Liars #9 Hits THE SPLASH PAGE

You can't tell by this image, but the final cover of Young Liars #9 features a pull quote by none other than me. It's just one more step in my long walk toward unprecedented fame and fortune.

Sure, I'm not credited with the quote, but that doesn't mean I didn't write it. And sure, people probably aren't going to search for the relevant review and find out which brilliant CBR writer penned such an evocative and precise line of criticism, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't.

Let's face it. I'm a pretty big deal.

You know who else is a big deal: Chad Nevett. And when he and I get together to discuss Young Liars #9, it's like an epic battle of greats doing great things while wallowing in their greatness.

You should check out this week's Splash Page to see it all.

Final Crisis #4 and Secret Invasion #7 Hit THE SPLASH PAGE

Last Wednesday brought us two Morrison-penned Final Crisis comics and two Bendis-penned Secret Invasion comics, so how could Chad Nevett and I not talk about them?

Obviously, we did.

And it's really a great opportunity to contrast Morrison to Bendis, DC to Marvel, Black Lightning to Noh-Varr, and, um, let's say bacon and Canadian bacon. Probably not the bacon so much.

But Chad and I do say some pretty insightful stuff about the structural poetics of both event books, laying out deep and meaningful theories that will probably end up as citations in scholarly papers for generations to come.

Just get over to the Splash Page and read it! You'll see!

The Cure for the Superhero Blues Hits THE SPLASH PAGE

Last week, Chad Nevett expressed some discontentment with the state of the average superhero comic book. This week, we've decided to devote the Splash Page to discussing the possible cure for the ol' superhero blues.

We don't ignore superhero comics -- we discuss the ones that rise above the rest. But we also talk about other comics that snap us out of that nasty superhero funk readers can sometimes get into.

We actually had this discussion on Friday of last week, but I'm just getting around to mentioning it here because I, um, kind of forgot. Must be all those superhero comics making me go all brain dead.

Anyway, to cure your superhero blues, check out the newest installment of the internet's #1 source for the awesome: The Splash Page.

Invincible Iron Man #6 Hits THE SPLASH PAGE

I reviewed "Invincible Iron Man" #6 yesterday, but Chad Nevett and I wanted to take a closer look at the issue, mostly because Chad kind of hated it, and I kind of didn't. Chad doesn't like a lot of superhero comics these days, and in our discussion we try to get to the bottom of that general sense of disappointment.

Is Chad wrong? Or are so many superhero comics really that lame?

Really, it's not even about "Invincible Iron Man" #6, except it TOTALLY IS.

Read what we have to say in this week's installment of the play-at-home version of the internet's largest and most comprehensive resource for passive aggressive chit-chat: The Splash Page.

Secret Origins Hits THE SPLASH PAGE

Tim and Chad talk about "Secret Origins," not the comic book pictured here on the left, but their own origins as comic book readers and critics.

After all this time, your questions will be answered:

HOW DID TIM GET INTO COMIC BOOKS IN THE FIRST PLACE?

WHAT'S CHAD'S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE WILDSTORM UNIVERSE?

WILL ANYTHING EVER BE THE SAME AGAIN?

All this and more in the internet's number one greatest two-man comic book discussion in the history of the universe: The Splash Page.

Ambitious Failures Hit THE SPLASH PAGE

My negativity toward Southland Tales sparked some debate about the concept of the "ambitious failure," so Chad Nevett and I had to join the fray with a deeply philosophical discussion on the topic--one that may be neither deep, nor philosophical, but is certainly the greatest column in Sequart history.

Read along with us, as we discuss the ambitious failures of Joe Casey, Grant Morrison, Brian Azzarello, and even Raymond Carver (sort of).

And, because I read the whole damn thing, I propose that Countdown was nothing if not an ambitious failure. I could be wrong about that.

And Charlatan Ball? Is that destined to be an ambitious failure after only two issues?

Only The Splash Page can tell.

Read all about it HERE.

Grant Morrison: The Early Years Not Available Much Longer

I don't know if I'm supposed to officially announce this or not, but my first book, Grant Morrison: The Early Years, will soon be available through Diamond and ONLY through Diamond. After it goes through the whole Previews catalog this summer and ordering that month and into comic shops in November and all of that, it might be available again via other venues, but that won't be until late 2008, or early 2009. I'll have more details about ordering via Diamond once that gets ironed out, but if you've been waiting to buy my book, you only have a short time to order it through Amazon (just click on the picture of the book on the right of this blog), otherwise you'll have to wait and ask your local comic shop to get it from Diamond.

Note: In other words, this is the last chance to get the first printing of the book. The Diamond version will be slightly different, with a revised cover design, a few minor rewordings, and a new appendix in which I discuss Morrison's first "Future Shocks" story. So it's up to you: get the original version now, or wait until late 2008 to get the slightly revised edition. Just so you know what's what.

Also, the Teenagers from the Future book is still in the pipeline, and we haven't finished the completely final version yet, so if you got one of the advance copies at NYCC you're lucky, because the rest of the world may not see it for a few months. That book may or may not end up with Diamond as well. I'll keep you posted.
