You know you've hit the big leagues when you bashing a book in a review is a bigger thing for a publisher than most people praising a book in a review. Damn you.
I remember total film getting their quote off a kelly brook movie poster because it was insultingly out of context. The movie was that bad Total Film called it out even though it happens to them all the time.
Great, I always thought it was enough not to trust cover blurbs that were only a part of a sentence or a phrase but now I can't even trust complete sentences?? Damn you, marketers!
On a related note, for some reason I really like the realistic stomach pudge the artist gave Layla. I mean it's not like she's running around and kicking as much ass as most superheroes. Or is she actually supposed to be fat and that's as far as they can go in terms of super hero standards? Iunno, I don't read X-Factor anymore.
I like how there's a reviewer who writes for a blog at CBR who actually likes the comic, but Marvel doesn't quote him. That's weird. Maybe they just love Sexy Tim Callahan too much to stay mad at him!

ReplyDeleteDidn't they pass some sort of a "rule" about 20 years back to stop movie studios from doing the same thing?
ReplyDeleteAlso, remember when David Lynch used bad and good reviews for "Lost Highway" in the print ads?
That Marvel, always on the cutting edge...
"A comic," says CBR!
ReplyDelete"Written and drawn," says Newsarama!
"Reads... like... good," says the Savage Critic!

ReplyDeleteHaha, it will probably end up on the cover of the trade paper back too.

It's the female version of Madrox's slacker beard.
ReplyDeleteThat's the best way to depict characters in a dystopia setting I guess.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm sure sex appeal is largely to blame. But, Marvel, I'm not just a piece of meat!
ReplyDeleteJoe Q finds bald men sexy? Maybe it's not actually Bendis' writing that he likes?
ReplyDeleteLeave it to me to lower the maturity level.
