I can't tell if everyone is sick of the Comic-Con news or just sick of having to read through a zillion articles to find the news they care about, so here's what I'm going to do:
Ask me any question about this year's San Diego Comic-Con and I will answer it.
You might want to hear about an announcement or some breaking news that you missed. You might want to know about the gossip on the floor. You might want to know how it smelled. I don't know.
All I know is that I was there for the entire show--covered a lot of panels and read everything posted about the other ones. I am your one-stop-shopping for Comic-Con 2008.
So, ask away.
where the eff is the fables panel coverage, or am i imagining that you were to cover that panel?
ReplyDeleteI covered it. I submitted the article on Saturday, but it hasn't been posted on CBR yet. Anything in particular you want to know?
ReplyDeletei have just seen no news anywhere. i know there were to be some "big" announcements. just want to know what was said.
ReplyDeletethe lack of coverage in the normal places makes me sad. and to know that you submitted the story but it is not up yet makes me sadder...
Fables-related announcements:
ReplyDeleteSturges signs two-year DC exclusive.
Modern Masters: Mark Buckingham coming from TwoMorrows
Fables novel "Peter and Max" about the Piper boys, written by Willingham; illustrations by Steve Leialoha
Fables/Jack of Fables crossover between books plus miniseries called "The Littles"
thanks so much! looks good. i look forward to reading your full report.
ReplyDeleteand who the eff is max piper?
if you cover it in your report, no need to fill me in, i'll just wait.
My main question, and one I think, given your interests, you might have asked around about: given the big pronouncement of Gaiman on Batman, what's the status of Morrison on same?
ReplyDeleteI did read that Gaiman is only 2 issues, so is it just an interim, or is GM leaving? I'm hoping not, as somebody enjoying his run a lot...
Thanks!
nadir: Max is better known as the Pied Piper
ReplyDeletemartin: Morrison said he's staying on Batman indefinitely. He says he wants to write Batman forever.
Great news. Now I just have to hope that the fill-in Austin/Gaiman issues are better than the "Grotesk" ones were.
ReplyDeleteAlthough they would kind of have to be, right?
Oh, and (as a previous post had it) if the Black Glove is somebody that "everyone in the world knows," that would make him Superman, right? Boyoboy, that would be something.
Thanks for the response. And the blog.
Presumably, as some have long suspected, the Black Glove is Batman himself. That's the way I interpret the "somebody everyone in the world knows" line.
ReplyDeleteSo how did it smell?
ReplyDeleteThe bathrooms smelled like the inside of a diaper genie. And every trash can was overflowing with used paper towels.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the convention smelled surprisingly normal. Other than the smell of desperation, but that's to be expected as thousands of would-be and kind-of-are comic creators hustle their stuff.
Morrison wants to write "Batman Forever"?
ReplyDeleteThat would be the best time travel story of all time...
Was there anything about Lost? There was an ad about "employment opportunities" in some Dharma-related company during the finale, and I guess the dates mentioned in the ad were the dates of Comic-Con. I probably could just look online, but I will ask you first.
ReplyDeleteYou wanna do this week's Splash Page on the convention? What news got us excited, what seems lame, etc., etc., etc.? (I say that as I'm not hitting the shop this week as there are only a few books that I'm buying, none of which are that exciting and, therefore, it isn't worth the bus tickets to head across town to buy them when I can just wait a week for awesome books, too.)
ReplyDeleteMolly: Dharma Initiative was indeed recruiting at the convention. You had to take a five-minute aptitude test. I didn't take it because the benefits seemed poor.
ReplyDeleteChad: Yes--comic-con reactions from us.
OH MAN taking a Dharma Initiative aptitude test would be my nerd heaven.
ReplyDeleteTim, did they do anything for the new Love and Rockets (volume 3)? I think it's coming out soon and it would have been a great opportunity to link to Watchmen (being two of the 4 or 5 bright lights of the 1980s that are always lumped together.)
ReplyDeleteAlso, did you see the American Flagg! collection there (or anywhere) for that matter?
Marc: When did you get back from your cruise? How was it?
ReplyDeleteyes, any info on the new american flagg! collection would be wonderful. preferably a loner copy if at all posible...
ReplyDeleteas i have all the single issues, it would be hard to justify getting this, but i loved this book so.
Marc: Nothing Love and Rockets related. Nobody cares about that stuff--there's no movie in the works.
ReplyDeleteI DID see the American Flagg! hardcover and was able to flip through it. It looks great. I ordered one online even though I, too, own all the issues. Hardcovers are just better. (And apparently there IS an American Flagg movie in the works--that seems like a bad idea to me, though).
Chad: Cruise was good. We got back on Sunday. Didn't read the two weeks of books BEFORE the cruise and I'll be getting this and last week's books on Wednesday. Should be a fun weekend.
ReplyDeletewhen is your new column going to start up?
ReplyDeleteI've asked to delay my column for one week so the debut doesn't get quickly overrun by the remaining Comic-Con articles still rolling out.
ReplyDeleteSo my column, "When Words Collide" will premiere NEXT WEEK. Probably wednesday.
