Johns vs. Ellis: The Final Stats

If I had to combine my Top 10.25 Geoff Johns list and my Top 10 Warren Ellis list from various recent "When Words Collide" columns, it would look like this, with Ellis in bold:

20.25. 52

20. Blackest Night

19. Infinite Crisis

18. Legion of 3 Worlds

17. Avengers

16. Ultimate Galactus Trilogy

15. JSA

14. Flash

13. Action Comics

12. Teen Titans

11. Desolation Jones

10. Crecy

9. Astonishing X-Men

8. Aetheric Mechanics

7. Adventure Comics

6. Global Frequency

5. Thunderbolts

4. Green Lantern

3. Nextwave

2. Planetary

1. Stormwatch/Authority

Yes, Ellis "wins" handily. But what does he win, besides my adoration?

Ellis wins? I think you mean I win...

I think you need to stay away from lists for a little bit. Not that I disagree with your choices.

Where would Transmetropolitan fall in your expanded ellis list?

Timothy Callahan said...

I still haven't read enough Transmet to judge. As I've said many times.

Stay away from lists? You do realize that the two lists were BY FAR my most popular WWC columns, and people LOOOOOVE lists.

Green Lantern beats Thunderbolts? Really?

I think it would be cool to expand the "Age of Ellis" you mentioned. His influence during that time and how, seemingly, it's dropped since then. A look at his legacy so far, would be interesting.

Have you ever read Johns' Hawkman run? I heard it was pretty solid stuff, and was wondering why you didn't mention it in regards to the Johns list.

Haven't read more than like two random issues of Hawkman. I'm curious about it, but not curious enough to buy all the back issues.

Yes, Green Lantern tops Thunderbolts. Have you read all the issues of both? Because the strength of GL comes from its overall impact, not from any single issue.

For the record: Hawkman would be # 1 on my personal Geoff Johns list.

It's got multi-limbed elephant men!

Runners-Up: The JLA/JSA team-up, Power Girl (Cause Amanda Conner), Beast Boy, Stars and STRIPES. And maaaayyyybe Titans.

It's a little strange that 5/sixth of 'em didn't make your list.

Although I haven't read any of the newer stuff that hasn't made it to the library yet - So there might be some overlap there.

I enjoyed this exercise, but I think what I'd really like to see is an Ellis/Morrison debate since they're both more, I dunno, post-modern? Maybe Johns could go head-to-head with Bendis since they both seem to be the primary architects of their respective universes.

Timothy Callahan said...

Yeah! Chad, let's get on those two debates!

Chad Nevett said...

Are you going to pick Johns over Bendis? Because if not, we've got nothing there...

Morrison/Ellis, though, would probably end with one of us challenging the other to fisticuffs.

Timothy Callahan said...

I would TOTALLY pick Johns over Bendis. Every day in every way.

Timothy Callahan said...

But I think we might have to wait a few months. A few months of tense buildup.

Chad Nevett said...

And for Blackest Night and Siege to end...

Jeremy said...

Man, I was so looking forward to that Morrison/Ellis debate

If I made a best of the decade list, Fell would be in the top 5. $1.99 for a bad-ass Ellis story and Templesmith artwork? Holy shit. Not a bad issue in the bunch. I wish they'd stuck with it.
